Santa Ana - Metapan 55-101 The game in Santa Ana supposed to be quite interesting. Third ranked Metapan (13-3) played at the court of 7th ranked Santa Ana (5-10). Metapan smashed Santa Ana 101-55 on Monday. Metapan dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Santa Ana's 24. They outrebounded Santa Ana 49-27 including a 36-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Metapan looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Cuban forward Yoel Cubillas (204-1994) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points and 20 rebounds and point guard Martin Ramos (171-1992) who added 12 points and 14 assists during the contest. Four Metapan players scored in double figures. Guatemalan point guard David Vasquez (-1992, college: Umpqua CC) responded with 24 points and American guard EJ Blackwell (193, college: Lourdes) scored 8 points and 9 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Metapan have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 13-3 record behind leader San Salvador. Santa Ana lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with ten games lost. Metapan will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Santa Ana will play on the road against Chalchuapa (#11) and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series. Strangely Nejapa outrebounded Brujos 48-33 including a 23-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Brujos made 18 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of Maxwel Mendoza who helped to win the game recording a triple-double by scoring 40 points (!!!), 10 rebounds, 11 assists and 4 blocks and center Teodoro Romero (202-1985) who added 25 points, 11 rebounds and 11 blocks during the contest. Brujos' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American Marcus Faison (196-1994, college: Salem St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 20 rebounds and Spencer Grand scored 25 points and 9 rebounds. Brujos moved-up to fourth place. Nejapa lost tenth consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with 12 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest. Worth to mention a great performance of Henry Sherrod who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 26 points and 18 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and American forward Ron Lawton (196-1995, college: NMHU) who added 33 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Cuban guard Pedro Roque (187-1995) responded with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and American-Colombian center Freddy Asprilla (206-1988, college: Canisius) scored 5 points and 16 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Fantasmas maintains sixth position with 7-9 record. Santiagueno lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with 11 games lost. Fantasmas are looking forward to face higher ranked Aguila (#5) in San Miguel in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Santiagueno will have a break next round.
